The XCat has won SAIL Magazine's 2017 Best Boat Award under the Day Sailor category, here's why.
The XCat is actually 4 boats in 1.
As a basic catamaran you can attach a motor and use it for fishing, pleasure boating or as a swim/scuba platform as it is easy to get on and off from in the water. Grab a paddle and you can use XCat for Stand Up paddling due to an innovative trim system that let's you steer the boat by shifting your weight while paddling.
As a sailboat the XCat is very fun and capable. It comes with a jib furler so you can sail in a wide range of wind conditions whether solo or with crew. The hull shape provides excellent lateral resistance without the need for daggerboards which also means you can sail the XCat in very shallow waters and land easily on sandy beaches. Should the wind die down you can use an optional motor or rowing system to make the most of your on water session.
The XCat RowMotion is a system that perfectly mirrors the the movement of high performance rowing sculls using a sliding seat and articulating oars while sitting in the traditional rear facing manner.
The greatest XCat innovation is an option called RowVista. RowVista uses a unique and reliable gear system that allows for the same feathering action of the blades while being seated in a much safer forward facing position. This feature simps has to be seen to be believed and as far as we know is the only one of its kind in the world.
Since either RowMotion or RowVista can be mounted in addition to a motor and sail, the XCat can be used in a variety if ways and under a variety of conditions. From windy to calm, shallow to deep, the XCat is a great way to enjoy the water.
Perhaps the compelling thing about the XCat is it's portability. The whole thing is designed to be car-topable so you don't need a trailer to tow it around like a conventional sailboat. The individual hulls are as light as a typical kayak and can be placed on your roof rack for transport. The rest of the gear fits neatly into your car or camper making this a great boat for those adventure filled weekends wherever that may be.
Setup and tear down typically takes less than 30 minutes each. The design is both innovative and intuitive so you will not struggle with instructions. Just setup and go.
Designed and built in Austria by people passionate about water sports using high quality materials and thoughtful features and options the XCat does many things well. As a sailboat you can furl and unfurl the jib at will making it a great solo sailor that's easy to tack and gybe.
Attach an optional bow net, load up your camping gear and sail to that remote island for a weekend camping trip you will never forget.
No wind, no problem, leave the sail off and use RowVista you can row the boat using the same advanced feathering technique but while facing forward unafraid of what you might row into. And when the weather gets hot and you want to go for a swim simply dive off knowing it will be easy to climb back aboard the boat.
Same goes for high wind sailing, the boat is very easy to right and climb aboard should you accidentally capsize while experiencing the thrill of flying a hull.
Catamarans are one of the funnest forms of sail boats and we know you will love the XCat. When you compare to other cats you will see that you do not need a trailer to stow and transport this boat making it more versatile and pragmatic while less expensive. Factor in the unique rowing configurations and you will have a boat like no other. It's no wonder it won Best Boat! But like owning a Ferrari or Lamborghini be prepared for people to stare, take pictures and ask questions :)
The XCat can be purchased in one or more configurations. You can just use it as a sailboat or add RowVista either now or as an add-on option later. To learn more simply click on the individual pages or links below.
