The first Torqeedo 1103C Units are starting to be shipped in Europe. It's a little longer before we receive ours but here is a video of what you can expect. They are direct drive and even more quiet than the 1003C model. After the break we have the press release direct from Torqeedo.
Gilching, Germany (April 8, 2019) – Torqeedo's new direct-drive Travel motor is the latest offering in the manufacturer’s market-leading series of high-tech electric alternatives to small petrol outboards for dinghies and daysailers. In a newly released video clip of the Travel 1103 C in use, only the wind and the splashing wake can be heard.
The top-of-the-line Travel 1103 C delivers equivalent propulsive power to a 3-horsepower combustion outboard and is suitable for boats up to 1.5 tons. The push-button start, integrated onboard computer with GPS-calculated range and runtime data, fully variable forward and reverse, and no risk of fuel or oil spills make this powerhouse easy to use and easy to maintain.
All Travel motors come with a lightweight, high-performance lithium-ion battery that simply clicks on top of the motor, has an integrated USB port for charging a mobile phone or camera, and is easy to remove for charging. The removable battery and tiller make the Travel incredibly convenient to handle and store onboard – the heaviest piece of the Travel 1103 C weighs just 11 kg (25 lbs) and the total system weight, including the removable battery and tiller, is just 17 kg (38 lbs). The motor is fully waterproof to IP67 and has a 2-year warranty for recreational use.
The 1,100-Watt motor ships with a high-capacity 915 Wh battery and standard charger. It can power a small inflatable at 2 knots (3.7 km/h) for approximately 20 hours for an astounding 74-km (46-mile) max range. At a speed of 5.5 knots, (10 km/h), owners can expect a range of at least 8 km (5 miles) – more than enough for most dinghy and tender applications. The new model adds instantaneous throttle response, a stronger pylon for increased protection from impact damage and an upgraded transom mount.
“Since their launch, Travel motors have become the preferred outboards for dinghies, tenders and small sailboats,” said Dr. Christoph Ballin, co-founder and CEO of Torqeedo. “The Travel 1103 C does everything a small combustion outboard can do but it’s lighter, much quieter, easier to use, cleaner to handle and store, and more environmentally friendly.”
Like all products from Torqeedo, Travel motors are offered with a full suite of high-tech accessories. It’s easy to add a spare battery or a remote throttle for operating the motor from the helm instead of the tiller, or owners can choose the TorqTrac smartphone app. With the optional Bluetooth dongle installed, TorqTrac turns your compatible smartphone into a bright, easy-to-read onboard computer with a number of useful motor and battery readouts. A stylish bag set is also available for easy, safe storage and transport of motor, tiller and battery.
